Frequently Asked Questions
How much does scaffolding cost?
Unfortunately, it is not as straightforward as just providing a generic cost, a number of facts need to be considered such as; location to our depot, duration of hire, total meterage of the structure, if there are any access restrictions and whether a design is required or not.
Who can erect scaffolding?
All scaffolds must be erected by competent and CISRS qualified scaffolders, you must also check your contractor has:
Adequate public and employee liability insurance for the project.
A compliance sheet or a “For construction” scaffold design.
A task specific risk assessment and method statement.
Issued a handover certificate upon completion of erection/adaption.
How long does it take to install scaffolding?
Not including any complex structures, scaffolders usually work on a linear meter rate, completing 50 meters per team per day.
What does it take to become a scaffolder?
To become a scaffolder you need to go through the training process via an adult course or apprenticeship. This consists of 18 months of training and on-site experience, at the end of which you would obtain an NVQ level 2 and become a qualified scaffolder.
How often should a scaffold be inspected?
The Working at Height Regulations 2005 states that all scaffolds must be inspected every 7 days, after a significant alteration, following adverse weather or anything that could affect the stability of the structure.
What types of scaffolds require an engineer’s design?
Independent tied scaffolds other than those covered by TG20.
Access scaffolds with more than two working lifts @ 100%.
Buttress’.
Suspended/Slung scaffolds.
Ramp access scaffolds.
Shoring scaffolds.
Cantilever scaffolds (other than those covered in TG20).
Bridging in excess of 7.2m.
Scaffolds on a sloping base exceeding 1:10.
Temporary roofs or buildings.
Tube and fitting staircases.
What is TG20?
TG20 is a comprehensive guide generated by the NASC for the safe erection and use of basic tube and fitting scaffolds which do not require a bespoke design. The most recent publication is; TG20:21.
What is SG4?
SG4 is also a publication generated by the NASC. A complete guide on how to erect or dismantle scaffolding safely to prevent falls during all operations. The most recent edition is SG4:22
